Gira x Rivas: six nights of free open-air concerts in the town's squares

July sounds different this year in Rivas. The Gira x Rivas festival fills the town's squares and parks with six free concerts featuring twelve local bands and artists, an initiative spearheaded by the cultural association of the same name in collaboration with the Department of Culture. All the concerts take place on Thursdays and Fridays during the last three weeks of July, from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM, with two performances each night: one at 9:00 PM and another at 10:00 PM.

The program kicks off on Thursday, July 16th, in Parque del 8M, in the La Luna neighborhood, with Velvet Vice and The Art of War performing a mix of rock, metal, and alternative rock. On Friday the 17th, Los Reptiles and De Zero take the stage in Parque de Bellavista, bringing pop and rock & roll. The second week begins on Thursday the 23rd at Plaza de las Ranas, in Covibar, with Irish folk and rock from Carrickfergus and Red Cantoná, and continues on Friday the 24th at Plaza Futurama, in Rivas Centro, where Infinity Road and Daga will deliver rock, metal, and indie. The festival concludes on Thursday the 30th at Plaza de la Libertad, in the Old Town, with the punk folk, funk, and soul of Las Delirio and Marveling, and on Friday the 31st in the plaza in front of the Zoco Rivas shopping center, featuring the urban music of Nele and Betx.

Gira x Rivas held its first edition in the fall of 2025 inside bars throughout the municipality, featuring more than 40 bands and nearly 150 artists on stage. This year, the festival takes another step forward, bringing its essence to the heart of Rivas's neighborhoods. The organizers explain that they have officially established themselves as a cultural and musical association with the aim of promoting performances by local bands and advocating for the professionalization and recognition of the city's music sector, while maintaining their founding spirit: an initiative created by artists from Rivas for the people of Rivas.

The repertoire spans a wide range of genres, from rock and rap to folk, heavy metal, punk, indie, and urban music, featuring original songs and covers of well-known bands. According to the organizers, attending these events in the town squares is a way to directly support local culture and discover the exceptionally high level of the local music scene. It's a free event to share, dance, sing, and connect with the community.
