RIVAS CELEBRATES THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE OLD TOWN ON JULY 18 AND 19 WITH A NEIGHBORHOOD FESTIVAL
2025/07/14

The city commemorates the transformation that began its journey from village to city with music, lemonade, cake, and a packed program of activities for all ages.

On July 18 and 19 , Rivas Vaciamadrid dresses up for a party to celebrate a new anniversary of the Old Town , an urban center that began to take shape in the summer of 1959. That historic day of July 23 marked the start of a new era for the municipality , leaving behind its dispersed agricultural organization to give way to a consolidated urban layout that today is an essential part of its identity.

Since then, and especially since the arrival of democracy in 1979, the Old Town festivities have become an annual tradition that strengthens roots, promotes coexistence, and encourages the participation of residents, associations, and local entities .

The Department of Citizen Participation and Neighborhoods, the sponsor of this initiative, highlights the symbolic value of these celebrations, which represent a reconnection with Rivas's living history and a space for intergenerational encounter.
