
RIVAS CELEBRATES EUROPEAN SPORTS WEEK WITH ACTIVITIES FOR ALL PEOPLE

Rivas is preparing for a new edition of the European Week of Sport, which will bring together hundreds of people in various events scheduled for the last days of September. This initiative, promoted by the European Commission, aims to combat sedentary lifestyles and promote physical activity in all countries of the European Union and other regions of the continent.
In the last edition, Rivas was awarded by the Higher Council of Sports (CSD) for being the Spanish municipality with more than 50,000 inhabitants that organized the most activities, in addition to receiving an award for the originality of its proposal.
FEATURED ACTIVITIES
The Department of Sports of Rivas has organized a variety of events that invite the active participation of people of all ages. The participation of more than 20,000 attendees is expected during this week full of sport, health and community.
1. Sports Day
Saturday, September 28th
Opening hours: 10:30-16:00 and 17:00-22:00
Location: Cerro del Telégrafo Sports Center
Sports Day is the great sporting festival in Rivas. A meeting place for people of all ages with physical, recreational and leisure activities, organised together with local sports organisations. In addition to the sporting activities, there will be areas for rest, health and catering.
2. Bulky Games: Giant Inflatable Obstacle Course
Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th September
Location: Miguel Rios Auditorium
Registration: from 27.90 euros (depending on the time of registration)
This non-competitive leisure event, which has been a success in France and Belgium, is coming to Rivas with a 5-kilometre route and 12 giant inflatable obstacles. It is open to people over 16 years of age and 10,000 people are expected to take part.
3. Bicycle Festival
Sunday, September 29
Schedule: 10:30 (adults) and 11:30 (families)
Departure point: Pilar Bardem Auditorium exhibition grounds (adults) and Cerro del Telégrafo avenue (families)
The biggest popular cycling event in Rivas will have two routes: one for the adult peloton and another for families, with the finish line at the H2O shopping centre. An ideal plan to enjoy with the family and tour the streets of the city in a festive atmosphere.
4. Rainbow of Health
From September 23rd to 27th
In order to raise awareness about healthy habits, this initiative is aimed at schools in Rivas. Students must eat five pieces of fruit or vegetables a day, drink a litre of water and do one hour of exercise a day. Last year, 2,500 students took part, a figure that is expected to be surpassed this year.
5. First School Cross of the Season
Saturday, September 28th
Schedule: 17:00
Location: Cerro del Telégrafo sports center stadium
Girls, boys and teenagers will be able to participate in this free sporting event, with medals for all participants and trophies for the first three positions in each category.
6. CPR Training Day
Saturday, September 28th
Opening hours: 10:00-14:00
Aimed at sports clubs and technical staff from companies that provide services in municipal sports schools, this training day in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) seeks to increase safety in local sporting activities.
7. Day for Senior Citizens
Friday, September 27th
Opening hours: 10:00-13:00
Location: Cerro del Telégrafo Sports Center
Sport has no age, and this event invites older people to participate in free physical activities to stay active and healthy.
8. Paddle: Solidarity Well
Saturday, September 28th
Opening hours: 11:00-13:30 and 18:00-20:30
Location: Cerro del Telégrafo Sports Center and Parque Sureste
This charity tournament, in collaboration with RunFaster, invites couples to compete in short games of paddle tennis. Each participant must bring non-perishable food, destined for the Rivas Food Recovery Network (RRAR).
